Applied Mathematics Course
The Kvanta team, in collaboration with the “Matematikotiki” School of Applied Mathematics, is launching a free course on applied mathematics! Five lectures—ranging from numerical computation to artificial intelligence—will show how mathematics works in the real world.
General Information
📅 Dates: April 21 – May 25 (5 weeks)
💻️️️️ Class format: online every Tuesday, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM🎓 Grades: 9–11🐱Cost: free
About Us and the Program:
The course is led by Ruslan Olgovich—an applied mathematician and experienced educator, founder of the “Matematikotiki” school.
Ruslan is one of the most active lecturers on the Kvanta.STEM Lectures project, where he has presented interesting topics in applied mathematics.
Course Program
1) Quantitative Approach. This lecture demonstrates the importance of a broad range of mathematical knowledge, as well as approximate methods for solving problems and when they prove more useful than exact ones.
2) Qualitative Approach. A departure from the paradigm of quantitatively exact modeling of real-world processes and an exploration of a new approach—the qualitative one—using examples of modeling economic demand and population dynamics.
3) Heuristic approach. In this session, we will examine what heuristic algorithms are—approaches that find good (but not necessarily optimal) solutions through ideas and approximations—using the examples of the ant colony algorithm and the least squares method.
4) Probabilistic and statistical approach. Fundamentals of probability theory and statistics: how information is extracted from data and how this is used in science and technology.
5) Artificial intelligence. Machine learning, regression, classification, recommendation systems—and how mathematicians use AI even in proving theorems.
Applications for the camp are being accepted until April 16.
